The Impact of The Silicon Cup on The Genie’s Wish

For the past three years, The Silicon Cup Regatta has proudly supported The Genie’s Wish charity. The funds raised in 2024 are providing a fully accessible family holiday for two siblings, aged eight and 12, both living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle degeneration and weakness.

Over the past year, the eldest sibling’s mobility has declined, and they now require a power chair and hoist. This has made visits to family homes challenging due to accessibility issues. Their wish for a UK holiday with accessible facilities will now become a reality, offering them a much-needed opportunity to create lasting memories together. This would not have been possible without the generous funding raised at The Silicon Cup event.

Mari’s journey to the Paralympics

In addition to supporting families, the charity also has the privilege of helping individuals like Mari pursue independence and follow their dreams. Mari, who has a rare degenerative neurological condition, was facing challenges with her deteriorating wheelchair, which limited her mobility and independence.

The Genie’s Wish were able to provide her with a new wheelchair—an essential tool that has dramatically transformed her daily life. She named her new chair “Genie,” after The Genie’s Wish charity, and it has enabled her to embark on new adventures.

With her newfound independence, Mari went on to compete in the Paralympics in 2024, winning Bronze in Para Dressage. Mari shared how riding has given her both physical strength and mental resilience. Once bullied for being different, she found confidence and purpose through equestrian sport.

Mari’s journey is a powerful reminder that with dedication and resilience, dreams can become reality. Through the support of The Genie’s Wish charity and the equipment provided by The Silicon Cup, Mari was able to compete on the world stage and create memories that will last a lifetime. She remains committed to inspiring others to pursue Para sport, proving that with perseverance, anything is possible.

Looking forward

The Genie’s Wish is incredibly proud to support individuals like Mari and families in need, ensuring that their passions, independence, and unforgettable moments remain within reach. This is only made possible through the incredible support and funds raised by events like The Silicon Cup Regatta.
